Six years, three cities.
It all started in 2019 in Bath, England, where an exchange student from Toronto and an exchange student from Chicago happened to cross paths. We were both there to get the full study-abroad experience — which, for us, mainly involved traveling, exploring, and partying. Neither of us expected to find “the one” along the way.
We were pretty different from the start. Aiden was the extroverted life of the party, while Diana was a little more reserved. But slowly, Aiden managed to bring Diana out of her shell. We became friends first; somewhere along the way, our friendship turned into something a little more, and eventually, Aiden made his move with a picnic date.
When our exchange ended, we went from living our best lives in England to long distance — Chicago and Toronto. For two years, we FaceTimed every single day, proving that apparently, we really never got tired of each other.
In the middle of a pandemic, we decided we didn’t want to wait any longer. On May 29, 2021, we got married at a courthouse in Chicago, with Aiden’s mom there, and our family and friends watching on Zoom from Toronto.
After Aiden got his Permanent Residence and moved to Canada in 2022, we finally got to start building our life together — navigating our careers, traveling the world, spending time with the people we love, and, of course, eating our way through as many good restaurants as possible.
Six years after saying “I do,” we’re finally getting the celebration we never got to have. We’ve come a long way since that exchange semester in Bath, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with all of you.
